This home is located on a north-facing, densely wooded site on Mayne Island, BC. The owner’s program described a contemporary 1½ story Arts and Crafts bungalow situated to take advantage of the views. The owner also wanted a warm and welcoming exterior and an interior filled with natural light. The home’s orientation ensures all rooms capture spectacular views to the north over the Straight of Georgia to Mount Baker while strategically placed windows introduce south light into the open plan. In addition, almost every room captures natural light from windows facing in two directions. The exposed trusses in the centrally located living room are hand crafted with timber milled on nearby Galiano Island while the fireplace sandstone was quarried on Salt Spring Island. The four inch alder floor planks were locally milled. This house was featured in Boulevard Magazine in November of 2012.
