Irving Pitcher Architects is a full-service architectural design and construction management firm with offices in Victoria, BC and on Mayne Island, BC. Since 1997, we've designed and managed over 100 completed projects, mostly in the southern Gulf Islands and on Vancouver Island. These projects have ranged from guest cottages to luxurious waterfront homes, and also include country inns, a winery, and a community centre. We design buildings that fulfil the potential of a site and the needs and desires of the client: buildings that fit. We strive for simplicity of design with great attention to detail, an open relationship between building and landscape, and the use of indigenous natural materials and sustainable technology. We enjoy the collaborative process and are committed to creating buildings that respect our clients' dreams and resources.

THE PRINCIPALS:

ROBERT IRVING, ARCHITECT AIBC
LEED ACCREDITED PROFESSIONAL

Bob came to architecture through the construction industry in Whistler, BC, where he operated his own contracting firm. He left the industry to attend the Dalhousie School of Architecture, graduating in 1987 with a Professional Degree in Architecture. From 1988 to 1994 he interned with an architectural and engineering firm in Vancouver while maintaining his own design/build firm in the Gulf Islands. As the owner/operator of Mayne Island Design Build he completed over 90 residential projects between 1987 and 1995. Bob received his professional registration in 1995 and formed Robert Irving Architect the same year. Bob works out of the Mayne Island office.

JAMES PITCHER, ARCHITECT AIBC

Jim also received his Degree at the Dalhousie School of Architecture, graduating in 1985 and receiving his professional registration in Nova Scotia in 1987. He worked as a project architect with several of Atlantic Canada’s leading firms between 1987 and 1997, and was involved in projects ranging from recreational and tourism facilities to schools and hospitals. His residential projects ranged from senior’s housing to exclusive private homes. After collaborating successfully with Bob on a number of projects, Jim relocated to BC in 1997 to establish Irving Pitcher Architects. He has a keen appreciation for the firm’s traditional sensitivity to regional issues, and an interest in designing buildings for the climatic conditions unique to the west coast. Jim is based in Victoria.
