Occupying a point of land on the east side of Saturna Island, in BC’s southern Gulf Islands, this home has spectacular views south to Cabbage and Tumbo Islands and to the San Juan Islands in Washington State. But the view was not something that one had a sense of from the original house, which comprised a warren of rooms over three levels with the main floor bisected by a brick wall.

The house was stripped down to its bare bones, and the views emphasized with larger windows and twenty feet of bifold doors, which open up an entire corner of the living area. Working within the original footprint kept costs down; reconfiguring the space allowed for an expansive master suite that occupies the top floor of the house, as well as guest bedroom, office, bathroom and laundry on the main, and another bathroom, media/exercise room and storage on the ground floor.
